Current Research Project:
 

This research project aims to design and to implement an intelligent, bio-inspired and with auto-organization robotic system (SrBio) that will be capable to control the movement dynamics (MD) and to obey the successive hierarchical subordination principle that characterizes the human motor system. Thus, SrBio will learn (in an adaptive manner, through a continuing auto-organizing process) to move by avoiding the obstacles and by using for this only the local environment representation provided by the sensors. The movement command for the SrBio will be given by a subject (more exactly, by his cortical activity) through out a brain computer interface (BCI) system. SrBio will execute this global command but having concurrently a local autonomy (it does not receive a details command in order to avoid the local obstacles).

Contributions in systems based on Virtual Reality techniques used in biomedical applications (Supervisor: Prof. Horia-Nicolai Teodorescu)

  One of the main objective of the Ph.D. researches was to develop a non-contact VR system sensitive to:
  • physiological signals obtained from the system’s user (respiration, tremor and skin temperature) and
  • other type of signals (body torso and eye movements) considered to be correlated with the state of the users.

Awards:
 
  • Romanian Academy’s „Constantin Budeanu” award, 2006.
  • In frame of  the international competition „The Innovact European Awards for Innovation”, 2005 organized by the European Commission and European Foundation for Management Development,  during the 10th European forum for innovative growth companies that was held on October 4th –5th, 2005, at Reims, in France, I was awarded with the second place. The project title was A Non-Contact Bio-Instrumental System for Quantitative Evaluation/Analysis of Parkinson Patients and Body Language Interpretation.
  • Diploma awarded for „Excellent results in research” by the steering committee of Romanian Society for Fuzzy Systems and Artificial Intelligence Society, September 27th, 2000.
